Sausalito Center for the Arts is the only nonprofit exhibition space among Bridgeway's commercial galleries, and it works differently from its neighbors. It has no fixed artist roster and runs rotating shows and community programming instead. It was founded in 2021 by a group that included the Sausalito Art Festival Foundation, the ICB Arts Association and Marin Open Studios, with local business leaders involved as well, and it operates as a 501(c)(3). Its stated mission is to enrich the community's cultural life through many kinds of artistic expression. Beyond the gallery walls it hosts art shows, music performances and panel discussions, so it functions as a small arts center, not a shop you browse and leave. What To Expect
Expect group and member exhibitions that change on a regular schedule, so what's on the wall depends entirely on when you go. Check the current show on the website if you're hoping for a specific medium or artist. Admission to browse is not something the site spells out, so ask at the door. The center also invites artists to register, accepts memberships and donations, takes volunteers and rents the space for private or corporate events, which tells you it runs more like a community hub than a boutique. If you're in town for a few days, the events calendar is worth checking before you book, since a concert or panel can be a better evening plan than another dinner reservation.
Getting There
The center is at 750 Bridgeway, toward the north end of the downtown gallery stretch, past Hanson and Galerie Elektra. It makes a good turnaround point for a Bridgeway walk, and the Holiday Shoppe and Golden Gate Jewelry are on the same stretch if you want to keep browsing on the way back.
Good To Know
