Daniel Merriam Gallery, known until recently as Bubble Street Gallery, is one artist's studio and showroom, not a group show. Daniel Merriam founded it in August 2012, in a building he designed himself, and the fantastical-realist paintings inside draw on Hieronymus Bosch, Jules Verne and Maxfield Parrish. The floating bubbles that gave the gallery its original name still turn up in the work, alongside dreamlike landscapes, odd creatures and a lot of small storybook detail. The gallery sells original paintings, drawings, sculpture, limited-edition prints, books and calendars, so there is a way in at almost any budget. It is the most distinctive stop on gallery row because nothing here resembles what's hanging a few doors away.
What To Expect
Expect a single-vision collection, not a broad survey of styles. Merriam unveils new exhibitions twice a year, and the room is arranged more like a walk through his imagination than a museum wall. The website lists paintings, drawings, sculpture and prints, and he has published catalogue books of his work, the latest being Pushing the Limits, which gathers 166 works from the past decade. Budget about twenty minutes to look properly, more if you want to talk with staff about a print. The gallery also works online, so a piece you fall for can be followed up after you get home.
Getting There
The gallery is at 565 Bridgeway, on the south side of the gallery stretch and a short walk north from the ferry landing, so it makes a natural first stop before the rest of the row begins. If you still have the old bubblestreetgallery.com address saved, it now forwards to the artist's own site.
Good To Know
The gallery says it is open seven days a week, 10 to 5, which is one of the friendlier schedules on Bridgeway. The site currently lists an exhibition unveiling called A Sense of Place on November 8, 2026, from 4 to 6 p.m., if you want to see the gallery at its busiest. Skip this one if you want investment-grade names on the wall, and go if you want to see something genuinely different. It's the gallery on this street you'll still be describing to a friend weeks later, and a print is a souvenir with more staying power than another mug.
