Heath Ceramics has made its dinnerware in this Sausalito building since 1948, when founders Edith and Brian Heath started the company — this is the actual factory, not a branch store, and the attached factory outlet sells seconds, discontinued pieces, and one-of-a-kind prototypes at a discount.
What To Expect
A light-filled 1959 building with a courtyard, working factory floor, and showroom — the outlet section carries discounted dinnerware alongside full-price tile, linens, and wood serving pieces.
Getting There
On Gate 5 Road at the north end of town, past the Bay Model and near the houseboat docks — a bit of a walk from downtown, easier by bike or a short drive.
Good To Know
Factory tours run periodically — check the website before you go if watching the ceramics actually get made is the point of the trip, not just the shopping.
Our Take
This is the one Sausalito shop worth a special trip even if you weren't already downtown — the discounted seconds are genuinely good deals, and seeing the working factory is more interesting than most of the town's formal attractions.
