Sushi Ran
Caledonia Street · Japanese
Verified September 2026
Founder Yoshi Tome took over this spot on Caledonia Street roughly forty years ago, and it's been genuinely destination-worthy ever since — a wine and sake list built to match the kitchen rather than an afterthought, and a 2025 Michelin Bib Gourmand to go with a spot on the SF Chronicle's list of the 30 most important Bay Area restaurants of the last three decades. It's the rare restaurant in Sausalito that people drive up from the city for specifically, rather than stumbling onto during a day trip.
Atmosphere
Quiet and serious about the food, tucked a block off Bridgeway on Caledonia — a different pace from the waterfront tourist crowd. The dining room is understated rather than flashy, which fits a restaurant that would rather let the fish speak for itself than lean on decor.
What To Order
Executive Chef Takanori Wada — Chef Taka — runs the kitchen now, and the à la carte nigiri list alone is strong enough to build a meal around without needing to ask what the tasting menu looks like that night. Trust the staff's recommendations on what's freshest rather than defaulting to the same rolls every visit.
Good To Know
Reservations are close to essential — book well ahead, ideally a couple of weeks out for a weekend. Lunch runs Thursday through Sunday, 12 to 2:30; dinner is Sunday through Thursday 5 to 9:30 and Friday and Saturday until 10. Caledonia Street parking is limited, so plan on walking a block or two from wherever you find a spot.
Our Take
One of the best sushi restaurants in Marin County, not just Sausalito — worth the trip on its own, separate from any other plans downtown. Splurge on the omakase at least once rather than treating this as a quick sushi stop.
