Sandrino

A Northern Italian restaurant and pizzeria on Caledonia Street, a block removed from the Bridgeway crowds, run by husband-and-wife chefs Alessandro and Monika, who moved here from Trento in 2015 — Alessandro grew up in Verona, Monika on her family's winery in Alto Adige. "Sandrino" was Alessandro's childhood nickname, which tells you how personal this place is meant to feel rather than a generic pizzeria import. The black storefront and simple round logo are easy to spot among Caledonia's more colorful neighbors, including the Indian restaurant next door.

Atmosphere

Neighborhood-feeling and a little quieter than the waterfront spots, with the kind of regulars-know-the-owner energy that Caledonia Street tends to have. Sidewalk tables under a young shade tree make it a pleasant lunch stop even outside the dinner rush.

What To Order

The pizza dough gets a 48-to-60-hour rise before it ever sees the oven, which is the kind of detail that shows up in the crust. The cannelloni ricotta e spinaci and the gnocchi alla romana are the Northern Italian plates worth ordering alongside it — the kitchen clearly wants to be judged on more than the pizza.

Good To Know

A good pick if Bridgeway's waterfront restaurants are fully booked — Caledonia Street rarely gets the same crowds, even on a busy Sausalito weekend. They don't take reservations and are closed Monday and Tuesday; open Wednesday through Friday for lunch and dinner, and all day Saturday and Sunday. It's a short, flat walk from the main strip, not a real detour.

Our Take

Caledonia Street's better restaurants tend to fly under the radar compared to Bridgeway, and Sandrino is a good example why it's worth the extra block of walking. Go for the pizza, stay for whatever Northern Italian plate the kitchen is pushing that night.
