Cavallo Point's fine-dining room, opened in October 2022 to replace the property's former restaurant Murray Circle. Executive Chef Michael Garcia, who ran the Murray Circle kitchen, stayed on to lead it. The resort now describes the food as modern American cuisine with cultural influences from around the world, and at launch the press described a seafood-forward menu with a raw bar and an adjoining lounge built for slow evenings with a good cocktail list. It shares the converted Fort Baker officers' quarters setting with Farley, a step up in formality, and is aimed at a couple looking for a quiet dinner rather than a group looking for a bar. Indoor dining is complemented by a terrace with views of the bay and the Golden Gate Bridge.
Atmosphere
Elegant and quiet, set inside the old Fort Baker post. It is a step up in formality from Farley, the more casual restaurant on the same property. The lounge side runs a little more relaxed than the dining room proper, a good option if a full multi-course dinner feels like more than the evening calls for. The terrace is the place to be on a clear evening, when the bridge and the bay hold the light. Inside, the room is hushed enough for real conversation, and the old military architecture gives it a calm, historic frame.
What To Order
The Liberty duck confit with porcini risotto and the charred Monterey octopus with fennel confit and preserved lemon are the dishes that show what the kitchen is going for. Fort Bragg petrale sole and a wagyu filet appeared on the launch menu, but menus change, so treat them as a guide to the style rather than a promise. Desserts were developed with Chef Monique Feybesse, a Top Chef alum. In the lounge, the raw bar is the reason to sit at that end of the room instead of the main dining room, and a cocktail from the bar is the natural companion.
Good To Know
Reservations are recommended, particularly for the lounge on weekend evenings, and you can book through OpenTable, by phone at (415) 339-4751, or by email. Dinner runs 5 to 9 Sunday through Thursday and 5 to 10 on Friday and Saturday. Breakfast runs 7 to 11 on weekdays, lunch 11:30 to 2 on weekdays, and weekend brunch 7 to 2. The restaurant closes for private events from time to time, so confirm before a special trip. Like Farley, it's a drive or a longer walk from downtown Sausalito, so plan transportation rather than assuming an easy stroll from Bridgeway. Parking at Cavallo Point is free.
Our Take
Book Sula for the occasion that calls for something quieter and more composed than Bridgeway's livelier restaurants. Save it for a dinner where the point is the conversation, not the scene, and ask for a terrace table if the weather is clear.
