Cavallo Point's more casual restaurant — farm-focused small plates, local microbrews, and cocktails built around fresh, foraged-leaning ingredients. It sits inside the old Fort Baker officers' quarters, a two-story white building with a wraparound porch, under the north tower of the Golden Gate Bridge. The setting alone puts it in a different category from anything on Bridgeway — this is a converted 1900s Army post, not a storefront.
Atmosphere
Relaxed lodge-bar energy, with a fireplace going in cooler months and a porch that puts the bridge practically overhead. Rocking chairs line the veranda for anyone waiting on a table, and the pace here runs slower than downtown Sausalito by design — nobody's trying to turn tables fast at a resort restaurant.
What To Order
The blue crab cake and the umami fries — porcini and truffle oil — are the small plates people order twice. The red mole beef short rib is worth it if you're hungrier than a small-plates crawl usually leaves you. On the drink side, order the Unsinkable Coffee, a signature cocktail built with chocolate liqueur from Sausalito Liquor down the hill — about as local as a cocktail gets.
Good To Know
You don't need to be a hotel guest to eat here — Farley is open daily on a walk-in basis — but it's a drive or a longer walk from downtown Sausalito, not a stroll. Figure ten minutes by car from Bridgeway, longer on foot along the bike path. Parking is free and plentiful at Cavallo Point itself, which isn't true of most Sausalito restaurants.
Our Take
The setting does a lot of the work — few restaurants in Marin let you drink a beer with the Golden Gate Bridge this close overhead. Go for an early dinner in summer so you catch the light on the bridge before it fades.
