A French bistro set inside a former Marinship boatworks garage, with a waterside patio that's one of the more romantic seats in town once the weather cooperates. The menu runs classic bistro — steak frites, mussels, a proper French onion soup — the kind of food that doesn't need reinventing and doesn't get it here. The high garage-door windows fold open on warm days, which blurs the line between the dining room and the deck outside.
Atmosphere
Industrial bones softened with bistro tables and string lights; the outdoor patio directly over the water is the draw when it's open, and even the indoor tables get a decent water view through the big windows. It's popular with the boating crowd from the adjacent marina, which gives it a slightly different energy than the tourist-heavy end of Bridgeway.
What To Order
The moules et clams is the dish the menu itself calls out as the signature, and it comes in five preparations — classic marinière, a creamy poulette, bleu with blue cheese, a smoky Basque version with chorizo, or a Thai take with lemongrass and coconut, all with frites on the side. The steak frites is the other order that a bistro either does well or doesn't bother having, and Le Garage does it well.
Good To Know
Patio seating is weather-dependent and fills first — book ahead and ask specifically for the patio if a water view matters, since an indoor table is a real fallback but not the same experience. Open for lunch and dinner most of the week, with weekend brunch Saturday and Sunday from 10 to 2:30. It's a short drive or a longer walk from downtown Bridgeway, tucked into the Marinship district near the marina.
Our Take
A genuinely good French bistro in a converted boat garage is a very Sausalito combination, and it works better than it sounds on paper. Go on a warm evening when the garage doors are open and the patio is running at full capacity.
