The dock where the Golden Gate Ferry from San Francisco comes in, right at the foot of downtown and Plaza Viña del Mar. For a lot of visitors this is the actual arrival point in Sausalito, and it's worth a few minutes on its own even if you drove in.

What To Expect

The crossing from San Francisco's Ferry Building takes about 30 minutes, and the last stretch into Sausalito, past Angel Island and Alcatraz with the Golden Gate Bridge behind you, is one of the better views you'll get anywhere in the Bay Area for the price of a ferry ticket.

Getting There

You'll walk straight into downtown Bridgeway from the ferry ramp — Plaza Viña del Mar is right there, and most of the shops, galleries, and restaurants covered elsewhere on this site are a five-minute walk away. See the Getting Here & Parking guide for ferry schedules and fares.

Good To Know

Golden Gate Ferry runs the route with service concentrated on commute hours on weekdays and a fuller weekend schedule — check current times before you plan a trip, since the schedule changes seasonally. A one-way adult fare is $14 by paper ticket or $8.50 with a Clipper card or a contactless credit card/phone wallet, tapped when you disembark in San Francisco rather than when you board here.

Our Take

Arriving by ferry beats arriving by car — no parking hunt, and you get the skyline view as a bonus instead of forty minutes on 101.
