The overlook at the north end of the Golden Gate Bridge, on the Sausalito side, with the classic postcard view back toward San Francisco. It's the single most photographed spot near town, and it's free.
What To Expect
A parking lot, restrooms, and a walkway right at the bridge's north tower with unobstructed views of the span, the Bay, and the San Francisco skyline behind it. Interpretive plaques cover the bridge's engineering and construction history.
Getting There
Vista Point sits just off Highway 101 at the north end of the bridge — but it's only reachable heading northbound, meaning you'll pay the southbound bridge toll on your way back regardless of whether you cross it. Cyclists riding the bridge from Sausalito hit Vista Point naturally on the way.
Good To Know
Free parking with a 4-hour limit, but the lot fills up fast on weekends and through the summer — go early morning or late afternoon if you want a spot without circling.
Our Take
Skip the car if you can — it's an easy, mostly flat bike ride up from downtown Sausalito along Bridgeway and the bike path, and you avoid the parking-lot roulette entirely.
